Our Aerospace History

In 1955, Rex Heat Treat installed our first vertical gantry. In 1960, we raised our roof and increased the height of our vertical gantry to accommodate the Minute Man missile.

These steps made it possible for us to focus our efforts more effectively on providing heat treatment options for the commercial aerospace industry. Since then, Rex Heat Treat has perfected our vertical heat treatment process to ensure the greatest quality possible.

The Rex Heat Treat Process

  1. 1. First, we put the alloys through a pre-treatment process, which includes cleaning the material and inspecting it  to ensure there are no cracks or deep scratches.
  2. 2. Next, we ensure that each part is properly fixtured.
  3. 3. Once the parts are fixtured they will be placed in the vertical furnace.
  4. 4. Then, we ensure that the furnace is properly sealed before heating the alloys. The length of time the parts “soak” is dependent on their alloy.
  5. 5. After the parts are done soaking, they undergo what is called quenching, a rapid cooldown.
  6. 6. Then, we temper the metal to ensure it isn’t too brittle after the quenching.
  7. 7. Finally, we inspect each part to ensure quality and send them off to the respective customers.
